Jimmy’s Second Chance
When Jimmy’s home burned down in 2020, everything changed. He had lived with a family and four other dogs, but after the fire, they were crammed into a small space with relatives. Over time, the dogs were neglected. And when the family moved across the country, they took four dogs with them—leaving Jimmy, the least favored, behind.
That’s when Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon stepped in.
Jimmy, SDRO Alumni
In November 2024, an SDRO volunteer drove hours to bring Jimmy to safety. He was in heartbreaking condition—his tail completely bare, the fur on his back end gone, and the smell of infection clinging to him. Yet somehow, he still wagged his tail and nuzzled the hand of his new friend.
Jimmy was rushed to Alpine Animal Hospital, where he received a full exam, bloodwork, vaccines, and treatment for his skin condition. He was prescribed weekly medicated baths. A mass was found on his spleen, and his teeth were in such poor condition that eating had become painful.
Next stop: the groomer, for a much-needed triple bath. Clean and freshly groomed, with a new collar and a soft bed, Jimmy was finally ready to meet his SDRO foster mom, Sue.
In the weeks that followed, Jimmy underwent two major surgeries—dental work and spleen removal. Sue cared for him with patience and love, giving him baths, soft words, and a stable home where he could heal.
The volunteer who had transported Jimmy never stopped thinking about him. One day in December, he turned to his wife and said, “I think we need to adopt that dog. I think I need him—and he needs me.”
He was right.
Today, Jimmy is thriving in a forever home filled with love and warmth—for the first time in a very long time.
At Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon, we go to extraordinary lengths to give dogs like Jimmy the second chance they deserve. This lifesaving work is only possible because of generous donors like you.
Please donate today to help more senior dogs find healing, hope, and a home.
